  • Uses: Ideal for commercial vehicles, industrial machinery, agricultural equipment, and maritime transport, providing clean and efficient combustion.

  • Special Additives: Includes cetane improvers, antifreeze agents, corrosion inhibitors, and detergents, optimizing engine performance and reducing polluting emissions.

We supply EN590 with efficient logistics and secure delivery, guaranteeing certified quality and compliance with international regulations.

EN590: High-Quality Diesel for Superior Performance

EN590 takes its name from the European standard EN 590, which establishes the technical specifications for diesel used in internal combustion engines in the European Union and other markets.
Meaning of "EN590"
"EN": Refers to "European Norm," indicating that it meets European Union regulatory standards.
"590": The reference number assigned to the specific standard that regulates the content, quality, and properties of automotive diesel.

Importance of the EN 590 Standard

  • Regulates diesel quality to ensure optimal performance in modern engines.

  • Reduces polluting emissions, aligning with regulations such as Euro 5 and Euro 6.

  • Specifies the maximum sulfur content (maximum 10 ppm in newer versions), which protects after-treatment systems such as diesel particulate filters (DPF).

  • Defines essential characteristics such as cetane number, viscosity, water content, and impurities, ensuring stability and efficiency.

  • EN590 is not just a type of diesel, but a quality standard that ensures compatibility with modern engines, improves performance, and reduces environmental impact.

EN590 Diesel Uses

EN590 is the global standard for low-sulfur diesel, designed to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and ensure optimal performance in modern engines. Its main applications include:

Land Transport:

  • Commercial and freight vehicles (trucks, buses, vans).

  • Diesel passenger cars compliant with Euro 5 and Euro 6 regulations.

Industrial and Agricultural Machinery:

  • Agricultural equipment such as tractors and combine harvesters.

  • Construction and mining machinery (excavators, cranes, generators).

Maritime and River Transport:

  • Small and medium-sized boat engines with modern diesel technology.

  • Complies with emissions regulations for operations in ports and coastal areas.

Power Generation:

  • Use in power generators for backup power in industries, hospitals, and remote sites.

  • Applications in power plants where high-quality diesel is required.

Key Benefit:

EN590 not only protects modern engines and extends their lifespan, but also reduces environmental impact thanks to its low sulfur content and high combustion efficiency.

Classification by Sulfur Content and Environmental Regulations
EN590 Diesel (Ultra Low Sulfur – ULSD)

  • Sulfur content: Max. 10 ppm.

  • European standard (EN 590:2009) and compliant with Euro 5 and Euro 6.

  • Used in commercial vehicles, machinery, and marine transport in regulated areas.

ASTM D975 Diesel (USA)

  • Equivalent to EN590 in North America.

  • Low sulfur content (<15 ppm) for modern diesel vehicles.

  • Classified in Grade 1-D, 2-D, and 4-D, based on viscosity and pour point.

Marine Diesel (MGO, MDO, IFO, HFO)

  • Marine Gas Oil (MGO): Similar to EN590, but with more impurities.

  • Marine Diesel Oil (MDO): A mixture of distillates and heavy residues.

  • Intermediate Fuel Oil (IFO) and Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO): Used in large vessels, with higher sulfur content.

JP8 and JP5 Diesel (Military and Aviation Use)

  • JP-8: Military diesel fuel, based on Jet A1 with antifreeze and anticorrosive additives.

  • JP-5: A higher flash point version, used on aircraft carriers.

Classification by Use and Specific Applications

Bunker Diesel (Bunker C, HFO)

  • Used in ships and industrial power generation.

  • High sulfur content and viscosity, requires preheating before use.

Off-Road Diesel (NRLM – No Road, Locomotives, Marine)

  • For agricultural machinery, construction, and locomotives.

  • Less refined than highway diesel, but with low sulfur levels.

Biodiesel Diesel (B5, B20, B100)

  • Blend of fossil diesel with biofuels (derived from vegetable oils or animal fats).

  • B5 (5% biodiesel) and B20 (20% biodiesel) are common in commercial fleets.

  • B100 is 100% renewable diesel, but requires modifications to conventional engines.
